Bob is also a trade and international development expert, with
the demonstrated capacity to advise governments and the private
sector on trade, country competitiveness, law reform and
accountability issues. Bob's economic development experience
began with a private sector assignment in Singapore from
1988-1991 as managing director (CEO) of a multinational company
with businesses in a number of Asian developing countries,
including India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia and
Indonesia. During his three-year stint in Asia, Bob also
negotiated mediation/arbitration dispute resolution clauses for
agreements between his company and Asian business partners.
Upon his return to Seattle in 1992, Bob specialized in the
mediation of commercial, products liability and employment cases
referred by a private ADR provider and, while serving as State
Trade Representative, mediated and arbitrated disputes between
Washington companies and Asian business partners. As Washington
State Trade Representative, Bob was also heavily involved with
promoting trade between Washington State businesses and
developing countries in Asia. Bob organized the first U.S. trade
missions to Cambodia and Vietnam, and promoted the export of
environmental technologies to the Philippines.
Bob is an honors graduate of Virginia Military Institute and
Harvard Law School. A Rhodes Scholar, Bob holds an MA from
Magdalen College, Oxford University in Philosophy, Politics and
Economics in addition to his LL.M in Tax from Georgetown Law
School.
